The classes

Children can start with  us aged three and our oldest children are currently 16 years old, from nursery up to A-level preparation. We currently have 14 classes and aim for a class size of up to 15 children.

Linguistic proficiency

Classes are held exclusively in German. It is therefore a prerequisite that the children have a certain understanding of the German language and speak German voluntarily. They are not expected to speak fluently, but they must be able to follow the lessons. In order to assess the language skills of potential students, we offer a ‘trial session’ as soon as a space becomes available. This is so that we can see that the children can follow the lessons and so that children and parents can see whether they like our teaching style. A successful trial lesson is followed by ‘trial period’ of up to four weeks: we want to make sure that the children like to come to us and settle in well. If this is not the case, we would suggest trying again later.

For younger children there is a German singing group in the Greenwich West library (146 Greenwich High Road, SE10 8NN), 10.30am-11am on school Saturdays. The group is free and open to families with preschool children. In addition, there is the German play group ‘Kleine Piraten’, although they don’t currently meet regularly. Best to join the Facebook group to find out more details. Both groups were originally set up by us but now run independently and are not affiliated with the DSSG.
